The Catholic ceremony to ordain Kono priest Father Charles as Archbishop of Freetown will take place on the 14th of May at the Stadium in Freetown.

The Kono Family Dinner organised by the Kono community in Sierra Leone to celebrate this ordination, which is planned for 500 people, is scheduled to take place on the 16th of May at the St. Anthony Hall, Freetown. Donations for this event would be welcome.

Information about the Kono Community group on Google.

Q. Why should I subscribe to the Kono Community group?
Ans. The debates on the Kono Community group will attract more members and will start constructive dialogue in the Kono community worldwide. The added advantage is as a tool for networking and awareness raising internationally. These pages will be seen from Africa to Europe and the US, which means the Diaspora both at home and abroad can participate and share ideas. This is practical development in action.

Q. How do I subscribe to the Kono Community group?
Ans. The easiest way to subscribe is to send an email to;
kono-community-subscribe@googlegroups.com
You can also subscribe to this group by entering your email address on the top of our home page at; www.kono.org.uk
or by visiting the group at; www.groups.google.com/group/kono-community and entering your email there.

Q. What happened to the Kono community blog?
Ans. It is still there and up and running, however, users found the blog was complicated to use. The blog does not have facilities for emailing comments to users or submitting comments by email, but Groups do have this facility. The email facility on Google Groups is a convenient way for busy people to keep up with online conversations by receiving updates via their email, and they can even contribute by email without having to constantly revisit the site. The conversations which were started on the blog have been transferred to the group at; www.groups.google.com/group/kono-community Please join the group by sending an email to kono-community-subscribe@googlegroups.com or by the means described above and continue any discussions there.

Q. Why are there so few members on the Group and Blog at present?
Ans. Even though we have a large mailing list of over 300 addresses, the Kono community has been slow in coming forward and adding its voice. Some members of our community face technological problems getting used to the internet. (Helping our community learn basic IT skills and access a world of knowledge would be one of many good projects for the Kono Community organisation to facilitate). But it is surprising that many who are already used to the internet have been reluctant, perhaps because they do not realise the value of dialogue in our community. We hope everyone will come forward and speak out so we all can hear their ideas for the future. There is no point having intelligent people in our community if they keep their intelligence to themselves. Knowledge is power, so empower your community.
